Liverpool closing in on Wolves gem Alvin Ayman
According to a report from Liverpool ECHO, Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers starlet Alvin Ayman.
Alvin Ayman, 16, who can operate in central defence and midfield, only joined the Wolves academy from Bradford City last summer. He featured twice for Wolves at under-21 level in the Premier League 2, having initially risen through the Under-18s earlier last term.
Liverpool ECHO states Alvin Ayman made seven appearances in the Under-18 Premier League North and was part of the Wolves side that smashed Liverpool 4-2 in the competition in April.
The teenager had left such an impression at youth level that Wolves boss Gary O’Neil included him in the first-team squads to gain some valuable experience. Ayman travelled with Gary O’Neil’s first-team squad for Wolves’ 5-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in May.
The 16-year-old’s potential acquisition would bolster Liverpool’s academy resources, further highlighting the desire of the club to spend big on youth when required. Trey Noni, 16, was signed from Leicester City in August and made his first-team debut for the Reds last season, while Amara Nallo was captured from West Ham United.
In recent years, the Merseyside club have strengthened the youth set-up by adding talents such as Ben Doak, Bobby Clark, Stefan Bajcetic, Calum Scanlon and Kaide Gordon. The pursuit of Ayman reflects the successful youth strategy of Liverpool, who are heading into Arne Slot’s era.
Ayman had not even featured for the Wolves first team, yet was impressing the Liverpool scouts. The Reds are reportedly set to pay Wolves a compensation fee in the region of £1.5 million, with the 16-year-old kid expected to be with our Under-18s initially.
