Liverpool decide how much they want to let cult hero leave this summer

Liverpool are reluctant to let Caoimhin Kelleher leave but would allow offers in the region of £25million

According to a report from The Athletic, Liverpool have slapped a £25million price tag on goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

The Republic of Ireland international, 25, played a significant role in the Reds’ 2023/24 season when first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker suffered a hamstring injury and spent weeks and months on the sidelines. He stepped in to play 10 Premier League games and took charge of Liverpool’s whole Carabao Cup campaign, helping his side beat Chelsea in the final in a penalty shootout.

However, Caoimhin Kelleher wants to leave Anfield this summer in a bid to secure first-team football, which is unlikely at Liverpool with Alisson Becker the undisputed No.1.

The Athletic claims Celtic are interested in Kelleher as they continue their hunt to replace veteran Joe Hart. But the £25million price tag is deemed too expensive for Celtic. This may force the Scottish champions to look elsewhere in a bid to replace Hart in goal.

Apart from Celtic, Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly expressed an interest in securing Kelleher’s services ahead of the 2024/25 season. it is not a surprise to see the Irishman attracting plenty of interest in the ongoing transfer window after another fine season serving as Alisson’s deputy.

Owing to Alisson’s muscle injury, Kelleher enjoyed his most productive campaign in a Liverpool shirt last time out, playing 26 times across all competitions. Overall, he has played 47 times for the Reds and has been involved in two successful League Cup campaigns.

At 25, Kelleher probably feels the time is right to leave Anfield and join a club where he will play his football as a No.1 choice. Given his Premier League experience and potential, Liverpool are correct to demand around £25 million to let their second-choice goalkeeper leave.

The Irishman has served us well, stepping in during adverse times and winning us games. If Kelleher departs, we may reportedly look at Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow as a replacement.
