Arne Slot shed light on how his similarities with Jurgen Klopp played a part in him being at Liverpool
A few hours ago, Liverpool manager Arne Slot gave his first-ever interview for the Reds. It has been a long time going, Jurgen Klopp took his leave quite some time ago, so it’s a wonder that Liverpool took so long to do this. But, Slot explained in his interview that things were pushed back a bit because of the German’s farewell and everything else being in play.
Slot also shed light on how he ended up at Anfield. He believes the similarities between his and Klopp’s style of play were part of the reason. He mentioned that the team was looking for not exactly the same type, but something that has been successful. Let’s have a look at what else Slot had to say. (h/t Liverpool FC)
“Yeah, it is my style but I think it is the style of many modern coaches at the moment: we were all a bit inspired because of the rivalry between City and Liverpool. We were all inspired by Guardiola and Klopp and I think at a big club, which I worked in in Feyenoord as well, it is probably the only style you can play”
Slot on his style being inspired by Klopp’s
Slot is aware of the comparisons between his system at Feyenoord and Klopp’s at Liverpool. He wants to have a lot of the ball and to have a lot of energy on the pitch next season. Despite the comparisons, Slot is his own man and will play the brand of football he wants to.
The Dutchman’s system might not vary a lot from what Klopp did, but we should see enough of a change to know that something has changed for the Anfield squad. Surely, a touch of Slot ball will go a long way towards helping the Dutchman carve out his own lane at Anfield.
He has all the talent he could want on that Liverpool squad. However, a few key signings are still to be made this summer. Klopp should be looking for players who can fit in and succeed in his system at Anfield.
