Liverpool handed transfer blow as Slot favourite’s wife bats for La Liga and Serie A

Liverpool have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Feyenoord star David Hancko

In what could be a blow for Liverpool, wife of Feyenoord defender David Hancko has hinted the defender may prefer a summer move to La Liga or Serie A, as quoted from Czech Republic newspaper Sport (h/t The Daily Mirror).

The Reds have been linked with several players as Arne Slot prepares to take charge of his debut season after succeeding Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout. It has not been a surprise that some Feyenoord players are on Arne Slot’s radar, owing to the Dutchman spending three years with the Rotterdam-based outfit where he won two trophies in three years.

One of those is David Hancko. The 26-year-old defender starred in Slovakia’s shock 1-0 win over Belgium in their 2024 European Championships’ Group E opener in Frankfurt earlier this week. As per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have contacted Feyenoord to register their interest in the centre-back, who is also equally comfortable operating as a left-back.

However, going by Hancko’s wife and professional tennis player, Karolina Pliskova, a summer switch to La Liga or Serie A appeals more than the Premier League.

“It will be dealt with this summer. Probably only after the (Euros) championship, but I’m not such an expert,” Karolina Pliskova told Czech Republic newspaper Sport (h/t The Daily Mirror).

“I don’t know if it’s up for grabs, but I think he’d like to move on. Actually, we would both be happy. We’ll see what will happen in the end. I’m not complaining, but there are definitely better places. For me, Spain or Italy.”

David Hancko was signed by Arne Slot at Feyenoord from Sparta Prague in 2022. The Slovakian defender played a pivotal role as Feyenoord won two major honours, scoring an eye-catching 11 goals in 93 appearances thus far.

At 26, the ex-Sparta Prague man is entering the peak years of his career and could be a shrewd capture for Liverpool. Slot knows Hancko in and out having worked with him in his previous club, so the Reds could take confidence from it before tabling an offer.

However, it looks like the player isn’t interested in a move to the Premier League and prefers Italy or Spain being his next destination, as evidenced by his wife’s latest comments.
