Arne Slot gives Liverpool the green light to sign the La Liga star Nico Williams

The new head coach and Jurgen Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot, appreciates Athletic Bilbao superstar Nico Williams’ talent and has given Liverpool the green light to go all in to sign the star forward this summer, according to CaughtOffside.

However, it won’t be an easy acquisition for the Reds, as they face competition from multiple top clubs. The consistent outstanding performances by the 21-year-old attacker have garnered interest from Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Rising through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao, the Spanish international is now a key performer for the club. The 21-year-old has maintained a staggering 19 goal contributions in his 31 appearances in the recent La Liga season, highlighting his significant impact and potential.

Given his talent at the early stage of his career, the 21-year-old Nico Williams won’t come at an easy price. The offensive player’s current contract includes a release clause worth €50 million (£42.2 million), which doesn’t expire until June 2027.

Signing the Spanish winger could potentially solve Liverpool’s left-wing problems, providing a dynamic option who can also perform successfully on the opposite flank if needed. Williams might also serve as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, a solution the Reds have been seeking for quite some time.

In a recent 1-0 victory over Luciano Spalletti’s Italy at Euro 2024, Williams showcased his abilities by tormenting the Italian defence, earning him the UEFA Player of the Match honour. This performance highlights his impact at an elite level, further underscoring his potential value to Liverpool.

He could eventually be Spain’s future leader

Liverpool’s staff, including Richard Hughes, realizes that signing Nico Williams will be a complicated process due to the high fee involved and the potential bid war with multiple interested clubs. The €50 million (£42.2 million) release clause, combined with the competition from Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United, adds to the complexity of securing the Spanish star.
