Conte drops bombshell on Liverpool's transfer hopes for exciting Euro 2024 winger
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via 90 min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Arne Slot has approved plans for Liverpool to go after Spanish winger Nico Williams this summer. The Reds will not be alone in Nico’s pursuit, La Liga giants FC Barcelona have also been linked to the player.
Williams has been having the time of his life at Atheltic Bilbao and made 37 appearances for the Spanish side. The 21-year-old usually plays on the left wing and absolutely excels at his job. Williams is both extremely crafty and precise, he can penetrate defensive lines with ease and also has an eye for the pass and the goal.
Last season he recorded eight goals and 19 assists for his team. Nico is a key player for Athletic Bilbao and this will be reflected in their asking price of about €58m. Chelsea were also in the race to sign the Spanish winger but dropped out, it is believed the Blues found Nico to be a little too expensive.
The Spaniard earns about €200,000 per week. So on top of paying his expensive release clause, teams will also have to doll out a heavy salary package for him. This is the one thing that’s off-putting about signing Nico Williams. Signing him could prove to be an extremely expensive affair.
However, there’s nary a talent like him on the market this summer. If the Reds do manage to pull it off, they would be adding a lot of firepower to their attack.
If things go according to plan, Arne Slot could be coaching Nico Williams at Liverpool next season.
