Liverpool might end up losing a defensive target to Juventus

Liverpool have been linked to Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori this summer, but the player could now be on his way to Juventus as reported by Sacha Tavolieri (h/t Liverpool.com). It is being reported that the Italian side is ‘close’ to finalizing a deal that would take Riccardo from Bologna to Juventus.

The 22-year-old made a total of 37 appearances last season and spent most of his time playing as a CB. Despite being a defender, Calafiori has an eye for goal and can usually be seen breaking away from the defensive line and joining the forwards in the final third of the pitch.

The Italian does a good job at attacking too and has proved to be a threat in the final third recording two goals and five assists last season. At just 22 years of age, the Italian defender has also solidified himself as a starter for his national team.

The ceiling for Riccardo Calafiori is very high, with the right surroundings he could grow to be one of the best defenders in the world. If the Reds can get a deal done for him, they’ll have gained an extremely strong piece for their defensive line.

However, things are not going the Reds’ way at the moment. If the report is to be believed, then it will prove to be extremely difficult to bring Calafiori to Anfield this summer. Liverpool will have to hijack the Calafiori deal if they wish to steal him away from Juventus.

This means the team will either have to match the Italian side’s bid or improve upon it. Both could lead the Reds to break the bank for Calafiori.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Calafiori saga develops. It would take a miracle but the fans would be over the moon if Riccardo ends up at Anfield this summer.
