Arne Slot yet to make decision on 21-year-old amidst European interest

Liverpool are yet to make a decision on Fabio Carvalho amid broad interest from European clubs

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Liverpool are facing a transfer dilemma over Fabio Carvalho this summer with a host of clubs vying for his signature.

Fabio Carvalho, 21, enjoyed an impressive second half of the season on loan at Championship side Hull City. He scored nine goals and supplied two assists on top of that in 20 appearances, but couldn’t help Hull City gain promotion to the Premier League.

The young Portuguese attacker’s performances in the Championship haven’t gone unnoticed. The Daily Mail suggest Fabio Carvalho is being courted by clubs in Germany, France, Spain and Holland, most of which have made it to European competitions. In England, newly promoted Leicester City and Southampton are among those interested in his services, while Fulham are planning to bring the 21-year-old back to Craven Cottage.

While there is plenty of interest in Fabio Carvalho, a move away from Liverpool is still a long way off. The report adds Liverpool may yet bring the attacker back into the first-team fold under new manager Arne Slot.

Carvalho would get an opportunity to impress in the pre-season, with Arne Slot keen to assess the squad before making big alterations. The youngster is also raring to catch the eye of the new Liverpool boss and prove that he has a long-term future at Anfield.

On-loan Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho “thankful” to be at Hull City after the failed stint in Germany with RB Leipzig

The widespread interest in Carvalho isn’t surprising, considering his promising performances on loan with RB Leipzig and Hull City. At Hull City, particularly, the Portugal youth international gave a glimpse of his potential and delivered the goods consistently.

The 21-year-old didn’t fit well into Jurgen Klopp’s preferred 4-3-3 formation and found himself way below in the midfield and attacking pecking order. Under Arne Slot, the switch from 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1 formation could see Carvalho thrive as a central attacking midfielder. A No.10 spot would be up for grabs in Slot’s 4-2-3-1—the system he used at Feyenoord—and Carvalho would have to battle Dominik Szoboszlai to make that position his own.

Upon his return to Anfield from a fruitful loan spell at Hull, the talented Portuguese may just feel he has the confidence and self-belief back to turn the page on his Liverpool career under the new management.
