Liverpool have been handed a big boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich skipper Joshua Kimmich

According to reliable Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is open to a summer move to Liverpool.

Joshua Kimmich, 29, has been the subject of interest from Liverpool in recent months, and it is understood the Germany international is open to the idea of moving to the Premier League. The midfielder has entered the final year of his deal at Bayern Munich and continues to be linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena.

Despite being the club captain and a mainstay in the side, Bayern Munich have no plans to extend his contract beyond 2025, which means they risk losing him on a free transfer next summer. Keeping that in mind, the 29-year-old is receptive to the idea of leaving the Allianz Arena after eight years, with Bayern Munich ready to cash in considering new head coach Vincent Kompany is keen on bringing in Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Florian Plettenberg adds on his official X account that Liverpool are among several elite European clubs that Joshua Kimmich would consider joining if a move away from Bayern were to happen.

As well as the Reds, he would also contemplate a move to our Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal. The prospect of joining Real Madrid or Barcelona is also reportedly appealing to the German.

Liverpool are expected to be active in the summer transfer window, with new manager Arne Slot looking to put pieces together for a successful 2024/25 campaign. The Dutchman would be keen to reinforce various areas of the squad that he inherited from Jurgen Klopp, who bid farewell to the Kop after nine long years.

The Wataru Endo replacement?
The Wataru Endo replacement?

Despite the club revamping the midfield unit last summer with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, Arne Slot would be keen to add another body in the engine room. Thus, the recent update on Kimmich’s future at Bayern should come as a big boost for the Reds.

It is no secret that Liverpool are among the host of elite clubs that admire Kimmich, who can play in midfield and right-back. The German international is one of Europe’s most decorated footballers, having won eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League among a series of major honours with the Bavarian giants. The 29-year-old is a proven winner and his leadership skills could come in handy for a Liverpool side embarking on a new chapter.

While Kimmich might be ready to pack his bags and leave Bayern, the Reds would need to fend off some serious competition if we are really keen to bring him to the red half of Merseyside.
