Liverpool interest in Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon opens the door for Barcelona to sign Luis Diaz during the summer

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is a transfer target for Liverpool, opening the door for Barcelona to sign Luis Diaz. Barcelona sporting manager Deco has admired Diaz for a long time even when the Reds signed him from FC Porto.

The Catalan giants faced financial restrictions which stopped them from signing the Colombian when Liverpool secured him under Jurgen Klopp. Now Klopp has left Anfield with new head coach Arne Slot taking over the club, opening room for further changes.

Diaz has struggled with the language barrier during his time at Anfield which also played a big factor in his struggles. The 27-year-old faced criticism for lack of productivity despite having immense technical skills which makes him productive for his nation.

Diaz’s father stoked more fire in the transfer market after speaking publicly about the player’s admiration for the Spanish club. The 27-year-old continues to express his happiness to stay at Liverpool, where the Reds fanbase adores him unconditionally.

Several reports in Spain (via Liverpool Echo) speculate that Liverpool are preparing to sell Diaz and sign Gordon this summer. However, the Reds will only consider offers above £50m which Barcelona cannot afford without selling some of their top players.

The Catalan giants are addressing the issue by selling Raphinha to fund the necessary positions which includes the left-wing position. Liverpool have used shrewd successful tactics in the transfer market and they would not sell their top assets for cheap.

Meanwhile, Gordon has the ability to play in several positions for the Reds despite his preference for the left wing. Liverpool aims to sign a player capable of eventually succeeding Mohamed Salah, given their current depth at the left-wing position.

Gordon’s productivity and homegrown status are another big bonus for Liverpool to sign him and secure the attack for several seasons. If Diaz joins Barcelona, the fans will miss their dazzling attacker but they will be happy to see him join a club that he loves and a culture where language issues will not bother him.
