Liverpool set to offer cult hero in swap deal to sign 23-year-old Newcastle star

Liverpool are ready to offer cash plus Caoimhin Kelleher to buy Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon during the summer window

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon is a transfer target for Liverpool as they seek a deal involving goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Kelleher outlined his desire to become a number-one goalkeeper at a top football club to fulfil his personal ambition.

Liverpool respects Kelleher’s desire, acknowledging his impressive contributions, both within the club and among the fanbase. The Reds fanbase understands that the Irishman cannot fulfil his potential while playing deputy to their legendary goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The 25-year-old has played an instrumental role in the two Carabao Cup victories in Jurgen Klopp’s era, establishing his legacy. At the same time, new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot would not mind keeping Kelleher and rotate him with Alisson.

Every big club have two strong goalkeepers as it has become a big requirement to compete for multiple different trophies. However, if Kelleher wants a bigger role as he has stated, Liverpool have the opportunity to solve two situations altogether.

According to the TEAMtalk (via Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are ready to offer £50m and Kelleher to sign Gordon. The Reds value their Irish goalkeeper at £25m- £35m range and the swap deal could mutually benefit all parties involved.

The Magpies requested the inclusion of Jarell Quansah in the transfer deal involving Gordon which Liverpool rejected immediately. Quansah stands highly rated at the club, poised to reach a very high ceiling as a first-team regular.

Meanwhile, Gordon enjoyed an incredible season with Newcastle after signing from Everton last season. The Englishman’s productive season highlighted the combination of several qualities like pace, hard work, mentality and technical prowess.

Despite coming from the Evertonian ranks, Gordon has a soft spot for Liverpool and he has addressed that in several recent interviews. Liverpool have good attacking players that are capable of filling Gordon’s preferred left-win position but the 23-year-old’s fluidity is a big advantage. Gordon showed his productivity from several positions last season which includes the right-wing position.
