Brazilian star Bento could be Liverpool bound this summer

Liverpool are currently in search of a new goalkeeper during this summer’s transfer window due to the uncertain futures of Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian at Anfield. The search for a potential replacement has seen the club scour the South American market with Brazilian goalkeeper Bento on the radar.

As the Reds aim to revamp their goalkeeping department, Kelleher is seeking a move to secure regular playing time, and Adrian plans to return to his boyhood club after five years of service in Merseyside. This situation has compelled Liverpool to actively pursue a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer market.

Will Liverpool meet Athletico Paranaense’s demands for Bento?

Liverpool are looking at Brazilian goalkeeper Bento.

Arne Slot and his team are reportedly interested in signing goalkeeper Bento from Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense, according to Globo Esporte. However, Portuguese clubs Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are also seen as possible destinations for the 25-year-old Brazilian international.

However, in a turn of events favourable to the Premier League team, Inter Milan have exited the competition for Bento’s signature. The Serie A champions have shifted their focus to Josep Martinez of Genoa instead.

Bento is under contract with Athletico Paranaense until the end of 2026. His club has already rejected a €15 million offer from Inter Milan. It is believed that the Brazilian side are not keen on selling Bento this summer unless their high demands are met, suggesting he will likely remain with the team past the Copa America.

Alisson Becker is great but Liverpool still need an able understudy.

Since being promoted from the Athletico Paranaense academy to the first team in 2020, Bento has rapidly risen from the fifth-choice goalkeeper to securing the number-one spot in 2022. Over his tenure, he has made more than 160 appearances and kept 58 clean sheets, demonstrating his significant development and dependability.

A move to Anfield will enhance the Brazilian flavour distinctive to Liverpool’s goalkeeping department. Bento will be reunited with current Selecao number one Alisson Becker and Samba legend Claudio Taffarel at Kirkby.

The past few years have showcased the importance of having a reliable understudy to Alisson who can step in when needed. The Liverpool number one is arguably the best shot-stopper in world football but the likes of Adrian and Kelleher have enjoyed make-or-break situations that have decided the team’s fortunes. Whoever we bring in to replace Kelleher should have a similar impact on the field.

Liverpool’s strategy to rejuvenate their goalkeeping roster is both necessary and timely. The potential acquisition of a talent like Bento could provide fresh energy and competition within the squad, which is vital for maintaining high-performance levels. Whether we will start the new season with Beto as Alisson Becker’s understudy or it will be someone else remains to be seen.
