Eredivisie star coy on whether he will ‘leave’ for Liverpool this summer

PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko has opened up on his future amid Liverpool links

According to Football.London, Johan Bakayoko has reportedly provided the latest update on his future at PSV Eindhoven amidst interest from Liverpool.

The Belgian winger made his PSV Eindhoven first-team debut in February 2022 and hasn’t looked back since. He enjoyed a strong 2023/24 season for the Dutch side, scoring 14 goals and providing as many assists in 48 outings across all competitions. He was among the standout performers in a season that saw PSV Eindhoven lift the Eredivisie title. Thus, it is not surprising that he is linked with a move from PSV Eindhoven this summer.

Off the back of his sizzling performances in the Eredivisie, Johan Bakayoko has been called up to the Belgium squad for the 2024 Euro. He is yet to make a mark at the European Championships, appearing twice off the bench across three group-stage fixtures for Domenico Tedesco’s side.

The 21-year-old has caught the eye of many clubs across Europe, including Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League. Speaking ahead of Belgium’s last-16 tie against France on Monday, Bakayoko remained coy when asked about his future.

“I don’t know if I’m going to leave PSV,” Bakayoko told the reporters.

Bakayoko’s latest comments are an indication that he is open to leaving PSV this summer should the right offer materialise. A left-footed wide-man, he usually operates from the right flank and likes to cut inside and shoot on his favoured foot.

The youngster has been the subject of interest from Liverpool in recent months. The Reds are planning to reinforce their squad as they look to provide their new manager Arne Slot with the tools to succeed next season. After finishing third in the Premier League, the club’s recruitment team along with our new manager must have chalked out the areas that would require bolstering over the transfer window.

Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move away to Saudi Arabia.

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the futures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz at Anfield. Salah has entered the final year of his contract and remains a top target for the Saudi Arabian clubs, while Diaz has been heavily linked with a switch to Barcelona. If the Reds do cash in on Salah, Bakayoko could be brought in as the Egyptian’s long-term replacement.

At 21 years of age, the Belgium international is still raw on many aspects but Arne Slot and his coaching team could develop him into a top player in the Premier League, having known him well from their time in the Eredivisie. However, Bakayoko is not expected to come cheap and PSV would encourage a bidding war between clubs to get the best deal possible.
