Hoffenheim star Maximilian Beier has emerged as a target for Liverpool
According to Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Liverpool are planning to bring Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier to the Premier League this summer but face competition from arch-rivals Manchester United.
Maximilian Beier is coming off a breakout Bundesliga campaign that saw him rewarded with a call-up to the Germany squad for the Euro 2024. Although he only managed 25 minutes at the Euro 2024 on home soil, the 21-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in German football.
The two-cap Germany international netted 16 goals and supplied three assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances this past season, as Hoffenheim finished an impressive seventh in the table and qualified for the Europa League group stages. Beier’s goalscoring exploits have not gone unnoticed, with the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid also interested in his signature.
The aforementioned report states Hoffenheim—after qualifying for Europe—have placed a €40 million price tag on their star striker’s head. Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in the player but are only willing to offer between €25 and €30m—almost the same amount Juventus would offer.
Liverpool have a strong attacking unit but players failed to convert chances in many crucial games during the second half of the last season, which ultimately extinguished their Premier League title hopes. New head coach Arne Slot is currently evaluating the options available at his disposal from the squad he inherited from the legendary Jurgen Klopp.
The Dutch tactician’s possession-based style of play with calmness in build-up play may favour the current attackers who have been used to operating in Klopp’s high-octane, rock-and-roll football. With flexible forwards such as Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota capable of operating centrally as a No.9, Beier would be a luxury acquisition for the Merseyside outfit.
Beier is an extremely talented striker who is lethal in the box, as evidenced by his displays for Hoffenheim, but he is neither a requirement nor could he operate in multiple attacking positions like the present Liverpool stars. The last time the Reds raided Hoffenheim, they landed themselves a gem in Roberto Firmino. Beier has already been compared to the Brazilian, and it remains to be seen if he will go on to have a similar impact at Anfield.

Simultaneously, Liverpool are better off focusing on strengthening the defensive and midfield options before the new campaign commences. Having lost Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip on free transfers, we must put all our efforts into recruiting a top central midfielder and a centre-back in this transfer window.
