Liverpool linked with a move for free agent currently playing in Euros 2024

Liverpool are keen on signing free agent Adrien Rabiot from Juventus

According to a report from Calciomercato, Liverpool are continuing to keep tabs on the situation of free agent Adrien Rabiot

The Frenchman is a free agent at the moment after his Juventus contract expired at the end of June (Transfermarkt). Juventus are keen to re-sign him and have already offered him a two-year deal with an option of a further 12 months, with new manager Thiago Motta admiring the central midfielder and his qualities as he looks to rebuild the squad.

The aforementioned report claims AC Milan are also interested in Adrien Rabiot, who made 35 appearances across all competitions in his final season for Juventus, netting five goals and registering three assists. Milan are ready to offer him a three-year contract with a € 7 million base salary. So, it appears Liverpool will face serious competition to sign the French midfielder on a free transfer.

Rabiot is currently away with the France squad for the 2024 European Championships in Germany. He has been a vital cog in Didier Deschamps’ squad and played 90 minutes on Monday as France edged past Belgium 1-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the competition. The 29-year-old is expected to decide on his future once Les Blues’ journey at the Euro is concluded, the report adds.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot has big shoes to fill at Liverpool after the exit of Jurgen Klopp, and how his first transfer window goes will go a long way in determining his first few months on the job. While a revamp isn’t likely to be on the cards, there are a couple of areas where the Merseyside club would certainly want to improve.

In midfield, the Reds have become a bit light following the release of experienced Thiago Alcantara at the end of this past season. The club would require club depth to compete on all trophy fronts next season, which makes the acquisition of a central midfielder important.

Adrien Rabiot has emerged as a target for Liverpool.

That said, we could certainly use a quality player like Rabiot as he will add steel, energy, physicality and drive to Slot’s engine room. The French star has been competing at the highest level for many years now and many qualities of his game should make him an ideal signing for Slot. He’d be a good option to compete with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch for the No.8 role whilst improving the depth of the squad.

On a free transfer, Rabiot’s acquisition should be a no-brainer for the Reds. However, given Juventus and Milan are pushing to sign him, we must intensify our efforts to bring him to the red half of Merseyside.
