Liverpool star Darwin Nunez going nowhere as Fenerbahce circle
Darwin Nunez is a surprise transfer target for Fenerbahce under Jose Mourinho but Liverpool assured fans that he is indispensable. Nunez is enjoying a fantastic Copa America campaign with Uruguay, continuing his prolific goalscoring form for his in-form national side.
Uruguay have won their first three group games against Panama, USA and Bolivia to top the group with nine points. Under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, Uruguay have used Nunez as the main attacking outlet to exploit his all-round capabilities.
The 25-year-old’s goal-poaching form contradicts his struggle with Liverpool last season when he missed many clear chances that attracted criticism. Nunez blocked many social media accounts and deleted pictures associated with the Reds as an emotional retaliation to the criticism.
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have no intention of losing Darwin during the summer despite the new circulating transfer rumours. The Reports over the weekend stated that Fenerbahce and Jose Mourinho want the Uruguayan international during the summer transfer window.
Despite the stern criticism about his proficiency in front of goal, Nunez enjoyed an overall good campaign with the Reds. The Uruguay international scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions for Liverpool last season from 54 appearances.
Nunez’s ability to score consistently with the Uruguay team proves that he can deliver as a prolific goal scorer for Liverpool. Last season, the Reds suffered immense consequences as their attackers failed to convert chances, costing them the Premier League trophy.
