Istanbul hero Didi Hamann believes Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is a “brilliant signing” for Liverpool if it does happen.
Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann believes Newcastle United star forward Anthony Gordon is a “brilliant signing” if it does happen. Gordon joined the Magpies last summer from Liverpool’s local rivals Everton and enjoyed a brilliant season, displaying his immense skills.
The 23-year-old’s directness, pace, close ball control and impressive dribbling abilities are a handful for any opposition defenders to deal with. He manipulates his movements at high speed impressively and uses the reaction of opponent defenders to beat them in duels.
The England international has enjoyed a productive start with Newcastle despite their overall struggles in the Premier League last season. Newcastle failed to reach any European competition for the next season, hurting their financial issues even further after past spending.
The profit and sustainability rules (PSR) stopped them from buying any players during the January transfer window last season. Furthermore, they had to unwillingly sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh before the PSR deadline this summer to avoid any penalties.
According to BBC, the Magpies approached Liverpool to sell Gordon but the deal collapsed after their demand involving Jarell Quansah. Liverpool have a strong interest in Gordon, who has expressed his fondness for the Merseyside club, making his admiration for the team well-known.
Speaking to Gambling Zone (via Liverpool Echo), Hamann outlined Gordon’s quality and believes he is a brilliant signing if it somehow happens. He said:
I think that Anthony Gordon would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool. Obviously, he had a hard time when he first came to Newcastle There was a few issues with the manager and with the fans, but he won them over, which is not an easy thing to do in Newcastle and the north east. He’s a brilliant player. I think he said somewhere, I’m not 100% on this, but I think he said his boyhood club was Liverpool and he was he was waxing lyrical about Steven Gerrard. I think it would be a great signing, Whether or not they can do it, is a different matter, because I don’t think Newcastle would want to let him go.”
Liverpool wants a wide attacking forward to add productivity to the team while challenging the current attacking options. However, the left-wing position is already well occupied by Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz while the right side needs more competition.

The situation could change if Diaz departs from the club as rumours about Barcelona’s admiration for the player persist continuously. Gordon‘s versatility makes him a strong competitor on the right, and his age and qualities make him an ideal fit for the Reds.
