Journo reveals Algerian star who could replace Roberston prefers to join Liverpool this summer

Football journalist Dave Davis revealed that Liverpool are the preferred choice of Wolves wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri during the summer window

Liverpool journalist Dave Davis claimed that the Merseyside club are the preferred choice of Wolves fullback Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer. Ait-Nouri enjoyed a fantastic season as an attacking fullback with the Wolves despite their need to prioritize defensive play more often.

Liverpool faced a severe injury crisis last season with the left-back position suffering the most during the congested fixture period. Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are the two natural options who struggled with injuries and poor form that hurt Liverpool.

Former legendary manager Jurgen Klopp deployed Joe Gomez at the position and while he thrived, Liverpool needed a natural solution. The Reds cannot afford to face a similar situation next season under the new head coach Arne Slot, needing to act.

Liverpool star Andy Robertson struggled with nagging injury during the last season which caused the club a lot of trouble.

Robertson is currently 30 years of age and requires a competitive player who could eventually succeed him in the position. At the same time, Tsimikas is 28 years of age, facing heavy criticism for his inconsistent performances alongside injury issues.

Meanwhile, Ait-Nouri has enjoyed a steep rise in his reputation since joining Wolves and delivering consistent first-team performances for them. Liverpool persistently scouts the Algeria international as a potential recruit to bolster their left-back position, offering competition and a possible replacement for their current options.

Speaking to Anfield Index (via Give Me Sport), Davis highlighted that Liverpool are the preferred choice for Ait-Nouri this summer. He said:

“There was a story by an Algerian journalist saying that Ait-Nouri was wanted by a lot of clubs, but Liverpool is the defender’s first choice. Definitely legs in this one, just because he’s been linked so frequently and LFC have a good relationship with his agents. So I think that there’s definitely something in that.”

Ait-Nouri has displayed incredible versatility while maintaining a high level of consistency in different positions for Wolves last season. He played as a left-back, left midfielder, attacking midfielder and right midfielder for his team according to his manager’s requirements.

Player analysis: Rayan Ait-Nouri

The 23-year-old stands at 1.80 metres and possesses immense stamina, athletic physique with immense pace and strength to fight duels. As an attack-minded left wingback, he ventures out of position but possesses incredible recovery speed to track back opponents.

The Algerian showcases exceptional tactical awareness off the ball, adapting to the Wolves’ playing style and holding his own against formidable opponents. He makes well-timed tackles and important blocks to negate the opposition’s attack and cover his space defensively.

On possession, Ait-Nouri is direct and confident enough to take any opponent in a one-on-one duel while dribbling. He enjoys making progressive carries and possesses a strong technical quality to make threatening crosses in the attacking third.

The 23-year-old received a lot of praise for his unpredictable and attack-minded approach that benefitted Wolves last season. Ait-Nouri has shown that he can adapt to different tactical styles of play which should help him transition into the Liverpool squad if the potential deal happens.
