Liverpool-linked Adrien Rabiot wants to join Real Madrid

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, French midfielder Adrien Rabiot is eyeing a move to European champions Real Madrid despite interest from Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has become a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired at the end of June. He is currently busy with France at the 2024 European Championships in Germany. The central midfielder has been a vital player for his national team and played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Belgium as Les Blues booked a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

So, any decision on his future is expected to happen after France’s participation in the Euro is concluded. The aforementioned report claims that Juventus have given up on their attempts to re-sign Adrien Rabiot and are pushing to complete a deal for OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram. He has supposedly set his heart on a move to Real Madrid this summer, which should come as a big blow for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp has laid some solid foundations at Anfield and the Liverpool hierarchy must do everything possible to build on those. Plenty of players have been linked with a move to Anfield, including Rabiot. Thiago Alcantara left the Reds upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last month, so there’s room for new manager Arne Slot to seek and bring in an adequate replacement.

This is when the club’s interest in Rabiot makes sense. There is no doubt the ex-Juventus man could be a useful signing for the Reds, owing to his quality, experience, winning mentality and versatility.

There is room for the 29-year-old to come in and provide the Reds’ midfield unit with steel, dynamism and physicality. Technically strong, tactically sound and capable of operating in multiple positions across the middle of the park, Rabiot would be a strong option to enhance Slot’s first XI as well as add depth to the squad.

The former Paris Saint-German star represents a great opportunity for Liverpool due to his status as a free agent. While the French midfielder wants to join Real Madrid, the current situation remains open. Having run down his contract with Juventus, Rabiot remains keen on a new challenge.
