Liverpool have entered the race for Juventus star Gleison Bremer
Liverpool have become the latest club to show interest in securing the services of Juventus star Gleison Bremer. The Brazilian has firmly established himself as one of the best in the business in Turin, prompting Bianconeri Sergio Brio to crown him the title of ‘best defender in Serie A’.
A no-nonsense centre-back, Bremer made a name for himself at Torino, earning him the high-profile move to Juventus in 2022. He has since established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe, playing a key role in Juventus’s 2024 Coppa Italia win. The fact that the Brazilian ace has replaced the legendary Chiellini at the Allianz Stadium speaks volumes about his ability.
At 27, Bremer is in the prime of his career and is currently at the peak of his powers. This has seen the likes of Manchester United make a punt to secure his services but to no avail. Bremer believes he is already at a top club and sees little need to move to Old Trafford.
While a move to Old Trafford can be seen as a step down, Liverpool are once again on the rise and can also offer UEFA Champions League football. With new gaffer Arne Slot keen to continue the good work by Jurgen Klopp, there is an opportunity for some of the best talents to join what is a new and exciting project on Merseyside.
According to Tutto Juve, the player is expected to make a decision on his future after the Copa America campaign with Brazil. We can expect the saga to speed up now that the Selecao have been knocked out of the tournament by Uruguay. Bremer was an unused substitute in all four of Brazil’s matches in this summer’s tournament.
Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back following the departure of cult-hero Joel Matip. Skipper Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger while Ibrahima Konate has reently been linked with a move to PSG. Jarell Quansah has immense potential but lacks experience while it is likely that Joe Gomez will be made use of a stand-in who can play anywhere along the back four.
Bringing in another centre-back is necessary and Bremer certainly fits the bill. A speedy defender, Bremer has strength and aerial prowess to boot. His ability to read the game helps him out immensely in one-on-one situations, a likely scenario given the high line Liverpool traditionally employs.

However, signing him will not be easy as the player appears keen to write a new chapter in Juventus history, under the management of Thiago Motta. Bremer’s contract in Turin runs until 2028 and has a release clause of around €70m that will come into effect in 2025. However, Juventus are expected to demand a similar fee should talks progress this summer.
As of now, Liverpool do not appear to have made their move for the 27-year-old. But then, the club moves in secret and likes to get things done behind the scenes. Be it Bremer or someone else, it is imperative that we add strength in depth to the centre-back roster this summer.
