Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi has emerged as a target for Liverpool
According to a report from Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool are among a few top clubs interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi.
The Reds are yet to welcome any new signings in this summer transfer window despite pre-season set to get underway soon. Arne Slot remains keen on addressing the problems in the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.
Owing to the uncertain futures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, the Merseyside club may dip in the transfer market for a new winger. Salah is in the final year of his contract and there have been no talks over a new contract. Liverpool may have dismissed the idea of cashing in on the Egypt skipper but that hasn’t stopped Saudi Arabian clubs from keeping close tabs on his situation.
Diaz, meanwhile, has been on the radar of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for months. The Reds are open to listen to offers for the 27-year-old, who is currently representing the Colombia national team at the Copa America in the United States. This may have led to Liverpool taking an interest in Karim Adeyemi.
The aforementioned report claims that even before Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League final against Real Madrid last season, Adeyemi was considered among a few players whom the club may let go this summer. This is because of the 22-year-old hugely inconsistent displays at the Signal Iduna Park over the last 15-18 months and the German side are now ready to consider any offers worth over €30 million.
Liverpool have expressed an interest in the player but could face competition from the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus. Having recently parted ways with his agent, talks are now ongoing with several other agencies about who will represent the four-cap Germany international going forward—and that could leave the door wide open for clubs to swoop in.
Adeyemi is a sublime talent whose 2023/24 season at Dortmund didn’t go as planned. A tally of five goals and two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions doesn’t justify his talent at all. A player of his skill set and potential cannot be discarded so quickly, considering he is still only 22. If Diaz is sold, Liverpool should have space for a talent like him in the squad.

The München-born speedster is highly versatile as he can operate anywhere across the front line. He could come in at Anfield as a potential replacement for Diaz but also compete with the likes of Salah, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota in Arne Slot’s attack. At 22, Adeyemi has a lot of football left in his career and would be a long-term asset if properly nurtured at our club.
With Dortmund valuing him over €30 million, we must be all over Adeyemi’s signing.
