Liverpool are under no pressure to sell Luis Diaz to facilitate summer signings
Liverpool superstar Luis Diaz has been strongly linked with a summer it from Anfield with the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain keen on his services.
The Colombian star continues to shine at the Copa America and will fight fellow Red Darwin Nunez’s Uruguay for a spot in the final against Argentina. Diaz has impressed in the tournament, further signifying his position as one of the most dynamic left-wingers in the business today.
While the 27-year-old is truly exemplary for Colombia, the same cannot be said of his time at Anfield. While there have been plenty of standout performances, the lack of consistency and end product remains a pressing issue. It is thus no surprise that the Reds are open to opportunities in the market to add to their stacked frontline.
The likes of Anthony Gordon and Nico Williams continue to be linked but neither will come cheap. Given FSG’s financial pragmatism, it will not come as a surprise that Reds fans fear they will need to sell in order to buy this summer.
However, according to James Pearce of The Athletic via TeamTalk, that is not the case. He has now revealed that Liverpool are under no pressure to sell Diaz and can finance a move for incoming without having to bite the bullet on the Colombian ace.
After years of being financially prudent, the Reds do not have to meet any PSR or FFP stipulations, leaving them free to attack the transfer market with room to spare. However, as we know very well by now, it does not mean the club will throw money around without any logic.
This is certainly good news as adding another winger to our stacked attack will give Arne Slot strength in depth. With UEFA Champions League football back on the radar, we need all the help possible to fight on multiple fronts with a reasonable chance of success.
Apart from a winger, the Reds are also in the market for a centre-back and a midfielder. The former might not be much of a priority anymore given that Sepp van den Berg is already at the club. This should free up funds for us to invest in a winger.

Diaz is no Sadio Mane but is a capable player on his day. He needs to channel more of his attitude while playing for Colombia to his time at Liverpool. Whether it be forcing him to wear the national team jersey underneath or otherwise, Arne Slot needs to find what can make the Colombian tick week in, and week out.
