Liverpool hold the edge over rivals Chelsea in the chase for Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi amidst links with Liverpool.
Karim Adeyemi didn’t live up to the lofty expectations at Borussia Dortmund this past campaign, managing only five goals and two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. However, the Germany international turned up for Borussia Dortmund in their 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May.
After being the standout performer in an otherwise tough evening for Dortmund against Real Madrid, the winger wants to kick on and prove himself should he be sold this summer. However, the aforementioned report claims that Adeyemi isn’t interested in a move to Chelsea as he only wants Champions League football if let go by the Bundesliga side.
This is a big hurdle for Chelsea to come across as they will not participate in the Champions League in the upcoming season, having finished sixth in the Premier League. On the flip side, it is a big boost for Liverpool in their potential pursuit of Adeyemi.
The Reds are yet to get going in this summer transfer window despite the pre-season tour inching closer. New boss Arne Slot, who has come in as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, remains keen on strengthening various areas of the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Due to Luis Diaz’s uncertain future at Anfield, the Merseyside outfit may look out for a new winger. Diaz has been a top performer for Colombia but has struggled to bring that consistency when donning the Liverpool jersey. He wasn’t at his best in the second half of last season, frustrating the manager and the fans with his lack of end product.
Nevertheless, the 27-year-old remains a coveted figure in the market and is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. Liverpool are ready to listen to offers for Diaz this summer, and if he is sold, they could look to replace the Colombian star with Adeyemi.
Adeyemi wants to play Champions League football and Liverpool would be able to offer that to him. Interestingly, his best performances for Dortmund last season came in the elite European competition, which demonstrates his potential to perform at the highest level. Liverpool having the lure of Champions League football gives us a straight advantage over Chelsea, who have appointed Enzo Maresca as their new boss to change their fortunes.
Adeyemi has been a long-term target for the Reds and was on the club’s radar since 2018. It would be a shame if all that work led nowhere.

If the Reds are indeed interested in Adeyemi, we must make a formal offer to Dortmund. By signing the Germany international, not only can we provide him with a platform to fulfil his true potential under Slot but also directly hurt our rivals Chelsea’s plans of rebuilding their squad this summer.
