Darwin Nunez does not shy away from a fight but Liverpool now need him to show it on the field

Darwin Nunez has been among the headlines once again, and this time for the right reasons as he clinches the news protecting his people and his family in the ongoing Copa America tournament.

Nunez, along with his Uruguayan teammates, took the matter into their own hands following their recent loss to Colombia. Uruguay players had their families in the stadium, and drunk Colombians were fighting with them for an unknown reason following the conclusion of the game. With no police or stewards taking control of the situation, the players jumped into the stands and ended up fighting back.

Nunez has always been someone who speaks up and is the first to stand up for the right. He showed this again last night when he ensured that the crowd was controlled and wrongdoers were kept at bay till police arrived.

He has been enjoying a decent Copa America tournament, starting all five games for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and helping his nation to the semi-finals in the ongoing campaign. The 25-year-old also scored two goals in the tournament and played an aggregate of 430 minutes.

Unleashing the Lion

Darwin Nunez does not shy away from a fight but Liverpool now need him to show it on the field.

Darwin Nunez has always been tagged as one of the players with exemplary potential; however, such potential has yet to be explored on a consistent basis. He would have games where he was a nightmare for opponent defenders, and then he’d back it up with a mid-display.

Many feel that his transition into a physical and fast league is more of the reason for his inconsistencies in front of goal. However, with two seasons under his belt in the English top tier, Nunez is ready to show the league his level and take it by storm.

The Kop, complemented by Reds’ new gaffer Arne Slot, would be hoping for Nunez to come back from the off-season with calmness and a halo about him. It’s time we see him replicating his displays for Benfica at Anfield.

Darwin has big potential and a fearless air lo about him, as we saw yesterday, and now it is time for him to channel his inner Luis Suarez and bring back his clinical qualities in front of goal. We have seen a Uruguayan striker score some crazy goals at Anfield for years, and it is time we come full circle.
