Manchester United have a bid for Leny Yoro accepted amidst Liverpool interest

Liverpool have been dealt a big blow in their pursuit of Leny Yoro as traditional rivals Manchester United have agreed a fee with LOSC Lille for the highly-rated talent.

Leny Yoro enjoyed a breakout season last year for LOSC Lille, making 44 appearances across all competitions at the tender age of 18. Rated as one of the top young defensive talents across the continent, his form has sparked a scramble from a host of clubs for his signature.

Manchester United have made a significant breakthrough in their pursuit of the Frenchman. They have seen a €50m bid accepted by Lille, but the situation remains intriguing as there is a feeling that Yoro will end up at Real Madrid and talks are progressing.

According to GIVEMESPORT reporter Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are ready to pay a fee similar to Man United but only if Yoro decides to change his mind. It is an open secret that the teenager dreams of joining Real Madrid, which the Reds and other leading European clubs have known for quite some time now.

Man United agreeing a fee with Lille is seemingly futile as Yoro is prepared to wait until 2025 if a deal with Real Madrid is not struck this summer. As per Ben Jacobs, Paris Saint-Germain also remain in the race for the centre-back with the Frenchman viewed as a ‘generational talent’ by all four interested clubs.

Liverpool are in the market for defensive reinforcements and have made Yoro among their top targets this summer. The release of Joel Matip at the end of last season has left Arne Slot with only three senior central defenders in the squad.

Virgil van Dijk is into the final year of his contract and recently turned 33, Ibrahima Konate isn’t reliable enough to be a regular starter owing to his injury record and Joe Gomez largely operated as a left-back this past season. Moreover, academy kid Jarell Quansah broke into the first team in Jurgen Klopp’s last campaign at Anfield but is yet to fully develop into a regular starter.

Thus, it isn’t surprising to see the Merseysiders searching for a young centre-back with a high ceiling. Given Yoro’s rise in stature in France and scary potential to become one of the world’s best in his position, it is easy to understand why Liverpool are vying for his signature.

If Yoro decides to change his mind about joining Real Madrid, the Reds are supposedly ready to go on the offensive and try luring him to Anfield. As things stand, however, Liverpool can only continue monitoring the situation as we are wary of the inevitable outcome. At the same time, we must continue pursuing alternative targets to strengthen one of the most crucial areas of Slot’s squad.
