Liverpool boss Arne Slot is keen to land RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo this summer
Liverpool boss Arne Slot is keeping close tabs on Spanish star Dani Olmo who continues to garner eyeballs thanks to his decisive performances for La Roja at this summer’s European Championships.
The 26-year-old initially started the campaign on the bench but has in recent matches emerged as a game-changer for Spain. Olmo has three goals and two assists in just four appearances on the field. He created the winner against Albania before taking the hosts, Germany to the cleaners in the quarter-finals.
Olmo also scored the winner against France in the semifinal, taking Spain to the showpiece event against England on Sunday night. While the whole of England will be cheering on the Three Lions, one can imagine Arne Slot and Co. watching on from Liverpool, keeping a keen eye and rooting for Olmo. Another strong showing will only strengthen the Liverpool boss’s intent to land the midfielder.
A tactically versatile coach, Slot is keen to pair Olmo with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai at the heart of the Reds’ midfield. According to Fichajes, the Dutchman believes Olmo will be the key foil to Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, adding dynamism to what should be a ‘dream’ midfield trio.
Olmo’s ability to run into space and arrive late in the opposition box will add a goalscoring threat to the Liverpool midfield. This is good news for the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, who can rake in the assists given Olmo’s ability to consistently find the back of the net.
A graduate of La Masia, Olmo is also a good fit for the pass-and-move system and is well aware of the need to create space and shift gears when needed. Add to it his mobility and eye for a pass, it is clear why Slot sees him as a potential game-changer for his new side. The combination of Olmo’s vision, Szoboszlai’s long-range shooting, and Mac Allister’s ability to pick a pass would provide multiple creative outlets and goal-scoring threats from midfield.
Olmo is likely to be deployed as an attacking midfielder, with Szoboszlai donning the box-to-box midfielder’s role. Mac Allister will then have to be deployed as a deep-lying playmaker, doubling up as a defensive midfielder when defending.
All three players are comfortable in multiple roles and positions, which would allow for fluid movement and interchangeability during the game. This flexibility can make it difficult for opponents to predict and mark them effectively. Szoboszlai’s work rate also adds to the pressing game, allowing the team to regain possession higher up the pitch.

While Olmo is certainly an exciting player in the prime of his career, and adding him to a midfield three of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai will add dynamism to the Liverpool lineup, it could upset the balance of our playing XI especially while defending. Their success would hinge on their ability to communicate, adapt, and maintain positional discipline to ensure both creativity and defensive stability.
