Dirk Kuyt hints he is open to Liverpool return after making contact with the club
Ex-Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt has expressed he is keen to consider a future role at the club under new boss Arne Slot.
The Arne Slot era has begun at Anfield, and the Liverpool fans are extremely excited to see what plans the club has when reshaping the squad. The Dutch tactician has a lot of work to do ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season. With plenty of players having participated in international tournaments, he is yet to fully evaluate his squad and perhaps that is among the chief reasons why the Reds are yet to make a summer signing.
All eyes are on the transfer market, with new sporting director Richard Hughes and boss Arne Slot working hard behind the scenes to achieve their summer targets. With Slot assembling his backroom staff, having very recently confirmed the appointment of analyst Aaron Briggs, Liverpool cult hero Dirk Kuyt has hinted at a possible comeback to the red half of Merseyside.
“Of course, if I can help Liverpool in any way, then I will. I’ve always been in contact with people at the club,” Kuyt told Ladbrokes 1-2-Free (h/t The Liverpool ECHO).
“I did some work for the foundation of the club, and I’ve done some commercial work for them, too. I’ve always been close with them. On or off the pitch, I’ve always tried to help the club because when you sign for Liverpool, you become part of a family.”
The former Netherlands international, who hung up his boots in May 2016, has earned decent experience in management in recent years. He managed the Feyenoord U19s for two seasons before accepting the managerial position at Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag in the summer of 2022. However, he was sacked only six months into his job at ADO Den Haag, after disappointing results left the team reeling in 17th position on the table after 16 matches.
Last December, the 43-year-old was appointed as manager of Belgian club Beerschot on a contract until the end of the season. Kuyt massively impressed in his first job outside the Netherlands, helping Beerschot clinch promotion to the top division of the Belgian Pro League as champions of the Challenger Pro League in 2023–24.

It was indeed a great achievement, which has definitely helped raise Kuyt’s managerial stock after it had dipped following his sacking at ADO Den Haag. After managing in his homeland and Belgium, it looks like the ex-Reds star is eyeing a return to England. Going by his latest comments, the Dutchman is keen on becoming a part of Slot’s backroom staff and helping Liverpool achieve success on the pitch, having praised his compatriot’s footballing brain.
If Slot and Liverpool feel Kuyt would add value and bring something new to the squad, we must consider appointing him.
