Manchester United are ahead of Liverpool in the race for Ferdi Kadioglu
Manchester United and Liverpool are both facing a key summer transfer window and now find themselves facing off against each other for the signature of Fenerbahce star Ferdi Kadioglu.
According to Calciomercato via Liverpool Echo, several top European sides are keeping tabs on the Turkish defender. Apart from us and Man United, the likes of Newcastle United, Juventus and Arsenal have all been credited with interest in Kadioglu.
The 24-year-old is a versatile defender who can do a job at both wing-back positions and also in central midfield. This makes him comfortable in different areas of the pitch, something that augurs well for teams that engage in free-flowing football. Given what we have seen of Arne Slot’s football, Kadioglu could prove to be a shrewd addition to the Reds’ roster.
Fenerbahce. currently under the leadership of Jose Mourinho are not averse to Kadioglu’s sale and have put an asking price of €30 million on the Turkish international. It represents fair value for a player who is likely to add quality squad depth.
However, the Reds have ground to cover as Manchester United are currently leading the race for the player’s signature. Erik ten Hag and Co have been busy this summer and have already secured Joshua Zirkzee while also closing in on Matthijs De Ligt. The Dutch connection does not appear to be slowing down as Kadioglu also holds an Oranje passport.
Liverpool are in the market for a defender and signing wing-backs should also be a priority. Signing another right-back should free up Trent Alexander-Arnold for a midfield role while Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas have struggled to perform consistently on the other flank.

While it remains unlikely that Kadioglu will walk straight into Liverpool’s first XI, he should offer depth, especially in cup competitions. But then, the Reds look for value and are rather financially prudent when it comes to making decisions. Whether they are willing to splash the cash for a player who is unlikely to be a key addition remains to be seen.
