Retaining Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot no more a priority for Juventus
Liverpool have been linked with French international Adrien Rabiot for a while now and it appears the 2024 summer transfer window has afforded them the opportunity to secure his signature.
The midfielder’s contract at Juventus expired on June 30th, earlier this year, making him a free agent. The Turin giants were keen to retain his services and even offered him a two-year deal, only to see it rejected. Juventus were keen to get the deal done before Euro 2024 only for the player’s camp to maintain a stony silence.
According to Tuttosport, Juventus now no longer consider re-signing Rabiot as a priority. This could pave the way for Liverpool to make their move. A versatile player with enough high-level experience, Rabiot will certainly add strength in depth to the Reds’ roster.
The Bianconeri have been busy this summer, already landing Khephren Thuram and Douglas Luiz. They are also expected to land another Liverpool target, Teun Koopmeiners before the end of the summer. Given the trio’s arrival, there is little need for them to offer Rabiot fresh terms.
The player is yet to make a decision on where his future lies. He is not short of options with AC Milan and Bayern Munich also in the fray. Securing a player of his experience for free is certainly an opportunity that could be exploited.
One boost Liverpool might have is Rabiot’s past connection to the Reds. A self-confessed Steven Gerrard fan, the Frenchman claimed to have followed the Reds back in the day. Whether fulfilling the dream of following in his idol’s footsteps will be enough to convince him to move to Anfield remains to be seen.
However, Rabiot does have baggage that needs to be taken into account before attempting to bring him to Anfield. Rabiot’s mother, Veronique is also his agent and can be a difficult person to deal with. The fact that Juventus were pushing for an answer before Euro 2024 kicked off only to be left hanging speaks of a rather unprofessional approach from the player’s camp.
Veronique also sparked flames between Rabiot and Kylian Mbappe in 2020, with the player himself adding further fuel to the fire following France’s exit from Euro 2024 this summer. We can do without such antics on Merseyside.

Liverpool are not ones to stick their nose up at an opportunity but given the baggage that Rabiot brings, especially off-field, we are better off looking elsewhere. At 29, Rabiot is in his prime and will add loads of experience but there will be better, younger, players out there who would represent better value at lesser risk. For now, it is in our best interests to pass on the opportunity to land Rabiot.
