Liverpool could sign Atalanta midfield ace Ederson for £45 million
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Atalanta midfielder Ederson is open to joining Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool aim to make quality signings over the summer transfer window, giving new boss Arne Slot the best possible chance of making an immediate impact in the Premier League. The Merseyside giants have been unsurprisingly linked with many players in recent weeks and months. One of those is Atalanta’s Ederson.
The 24-year-old was a pivotal figure for Atalanta this past season, helping them win the Europa League under the tutelage of Gian Piero Gasperini. Liverpool scouts and fans also had the chance to watch the central midfielder closely as he impressed against them over the two quarter-final legs of the Europa League campaign.
Following a strong 2023/24 campaign in Italy, which yielded seven goals and an assist in 53 appearances across all competitions, Ederson was called up to the Brazil squad for the recently concluded Copa America in the United States. However, he only managed 17 minutes off the bench in the tournament as Brazil crashed out in the quarter-finals to Colombia. Ederson also played a key role as Atalanta secured their first ever UEFA Europa League title in 2023/24.
The aforementioned report adds that the Reds are planning to open negotiations with Atalanta after it emerged that Ederson is not ruling out the possibility of leaving Bergamo this year. New sporting director Richard Hughes is leading the club’s recruitment drive, and as he has links with Atalanta, he could play a major role in getting a deal done for the Merseyside outfit.
The Reds lost the decorated midfielder Thiago Alcantara at the end of the season and will need to replace him adequately in the squad. They are looking for a new face in the middle of the park and Ederson, owing to his mix of technical skills, engine and physicality, fits the criteria perfectly at Anfield.
The Brazil international has performed extremely well for Atalanta since arriving from Salernitana a couple of summers ago. Having shown his ability in Serie A, he is perhaps at an age to look out for a new adventure in a different league. As Liverpool are among the biggest clubs in the world, Ederson could be excited to don the famous Red and become a part of the Arne Slot era at Anfield.
