Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer

According to a report from The Athletic, Liverpool have slapped a £ 25 million price tag on the head of goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Caoimhin Kelleher enjoyed his most productive campaign yet at Anfield, making 26 appearances across all competitions in 2023/24. Injury to the Reds’ No.1 Alisson Becker saw the Irishman deputise in goal and showcase his qualities. He produced some really impressive performances and staked his claim to take over from Alisson Becker permanently, although the Brazil international remains the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper.

The departure of Adrian on a free transfer earlier this summer has left our new gaffer Arne Slot with only two experienced goalkeepers in Alisson and Kelleher. Interestingly, Alisson is linked with a move away to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League but it is unlikely that the Merseyside outfit will let him leave. As a result, Kelleher is seemingly pushing for a move away from Anfield as he aspires to become a No.1 goalkeeper and enjoy regular minutes.

The aforementioned report claims Liverpool are yet to receive any bids for Kelleher, who has been on Celtic’s radar since the start of the summer. However, the Scottish champions’ acquisition of Kasper Schmeichel earlier this month has all but ended any hopes of Kelleher moving to Parkhead.

Kelleher has proven his worth every time he has stepped on the pitch for Liverpool. So, he is well within his right to express his desire to play regularly, which unfortunately isn’t going to happen at our club unless Alisson leaves. The presence of two strong, competent goalkeepers is any manager’s dream and Arne Slot will be delighted to have both Alisson and Kelleher at his disposal for his debut campaign in English football.

The Liverpool fans are well aware that Kelleher is more than capable of playing regularly at the highest level. So, it makes no sense to stand in his way for development. Needless to say, the Republic of Ireland international would certainly not want to spend his prime years warming the benches at our club, thus, it is understandable why he has been angling for a move away.

Caoimhin Kelleher admits that the Arne Slot era at Liverpool is off to an 'enjoyable' start.

As per the latest update, however, Kelleher has hinted he’s ready to stay with Liverpool for another season after welcoming a first week of preseason under Slot and his coaching staff.

Alisson has yet to return from representing Brazil in the Copa America this summer which gives his deputy to impress the Dutch tactician in the upcoming pre-season tour and stake his claim for a starting berth. It remains to be seen what happens with the Irishman as Slot will undoubtedly want him to stay amid the club putting their valuation of the goalkeeper out in the market.
