Karim Adeyemi breaks silence on leaving Borussia Dortmund amid Liverpool interest
Liverpool-linked Germany international Karim Adeyemi has opened up on his future at Borussia Dortmund.
The 22-year-old endured an injury-hit 2023/24 campaign with Borussia Dortmund, managing only 10 Bundesliga starts in 21 appearances. The speedy wideman registered just three goals and one assist in the league, although he was a regular fixture in the latter stages of Borussia Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final, where unfortunately they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium in May.
Despite experiencing a mixed season in Germany, Karim Adeyemi has done enough to attract interest from clubs across Europe. Liverpool are among those interested clubs for his signature, with Dortmund open to selling him if they receive €30 million this summer.
Although Adeyemi maintained he was happy at Dortmund, he seemed to leave the door wide open to an exit while addressing the recent speculation.
“I can’t say anything about that. I’m wearing a Dortmund shirt, and I’m very happy to be wearing a Dortmund shirt. There are no guarantees in life,” Adeyemi told German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten (h/t Liverpool ECHO)
Having not made the Germany squad for the Euro 2024, Adeyemi is back in training with his Dortmund teammates. He was in action for Dortmund’s first pre-season friendly against FC Erzgebirge Aue, starting the game and playing 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
The electric winger, since leaving Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, has not been a roaring success in Germany. But still at 22, he has a long way to go in his career and could certainly still enjoy rich success in the Premier League with Liverpool, who are yet to make a summer signing yet under the management of new boss Arne Slot.
Arne Slot has spent the initial weeks trying to evaluate the squad available at his disposal due to the Euro 2024 and Copa America, but with the two competitions now done and dusted and the beginning of the new Premier League campaign less than a month away, he has to start forcing the board to bring in new players.

A winger could be on the Dutchman’s agenda, owing to the uncertain futures of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. Diaz has been strongly linked with moves to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, while Salah is into the final year of his contract. The Reds are open to listen to offers for Diaz this summer, and if he is sold, they could look to replace him with Adeyemi.
Adeyemi, who has been a Liverpool target since 2019, could be enticed by the prospect of playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football. An extremely gifted player with huge potential, the Germany international needs a change of scenery to revive his career. Going by his latest statement, the Reds must test Dortmund’s resolve with a bid for the explosive attacker.
