Liverpool are planning to snap up free agent Adrien Rabiot
According to a report from Italian outlet Football Italia, Liverpool are among several clubs set to hold talks with free agent Adrien Rabiot over a possible move.
Juventus have confirmed Adrien Rabiot has left the club after the expiry of his contract at the end of June. The Frenchman spent five seasons with Juventus, registering 22 goals and 15 assists in 212 appearances across all competitions after joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. During his time in Turin, the central midfielder won a Scudetto, one Italian Super Cup and two Italian Cups.
He had allowed to run down his contract with the Turin giants last year, only to sign a one-year extension and the club hoped he would do it again this summer. However, it didn’t happen that way and now Rabiot is a free agent. The 29-year-old is now free to discuss about his new adventure with other clubs after the conclusion of Euro 2024, with the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Manchester United and Newcastle United all keen.
The aforementioned report claims Rabiot is eyeing €9m per season wages, which will be difficult for Serie A clubs to fulfil. This indirectly gives the Premier League clubs an advantage, with Liverpool expected to battle against Man United and Newcastle for the player’s signature.
With the new Premier League season only four weeks away, the Reds must kickstart their summer transfer window and bring in some quality players to the red half of Merseyside. If they want to be successful after the Jurgen Klopp era, then the new gaffer Arne Slot is going to need the tools from the transfer window.
Arne Slot is supposedly in the market for a new central midfielder this summer after the release of Thiago Alcantara at the end of June. While Benfica starlet Joao Neves has been the subject of speculation around a switch to Anfield, Rabiot may present a financially more practical option for Liverpool who are planning to address many areas of Slot’s squad.

The 29-year-old, who was a part of the France squad at the recently concluded Euro 2024, is a free agent and his signing would not require a transfer fee. The ex-PSG man can operate in multiple positions across the centre of the pitch, and his physicality, dynamism and aerial prowess would enhance Liverpool’s first XI. Add his volumes of European experience and winning mentality, a figure like him could make a lot of difference on and off the pitch.
With many clubs vying for his signature, Liverpool need to act swiftly if they are serious about signing Rabiot. He very well can be someone who fills in the void left by Thiago in our squad. A Steven Gerrard fan, he could mirror his hero’s success should he move to Anfield.
