Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a move to Real Madrid
2022 World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister’s father has played down links with Real Madrid, insisting the central midfielder is happy with life at Liverpool.
The Argentina international signed for Liverpool in an initial £35m deal from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer, penning a five-year deal. He enjoyed a solid debut season at Anfield, bagging seven goals and as many assists in 46 appearances across all competitions as the Merseysiders finished third in the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s farewell year.
Alexis Mac Allister was a key figure in Argentina’s recent Copa America triumph, with La Albiceleste beating Colombia 1-0 in the final. Such impressive form has not gone unnoticed, linking the Liverpool star with a move to European champions Real Madrid this summer. However, Carlos Mac Allister has confirmed his son is staying at Anfield for at least one more season.
“Alexis is performing very well at Liverpool, and this is the important thing to say at the moment,” Mac Allister Sr. told Egyptian outlet MSR.
“There are no negotiations on the part of Real Madrid with Alexis, and the player continues with Liverpool next season,”
“In the event of future offers to sign Alexis, we will discuss them with the Liverpool management first.”
Back in May, reports had surfaced about Real Madrid targeting Mac Allister to replace Toni Kroos, who waved goodbye to the European champions at the end of last season after enjoying a trophy-laden career in the Spanish capital. Of course, one can see why Real Madrid would be interested in the 25-year-old.
Mac Allister proved himself at Brighton before joining Liverpool last summer. He blossomed as a deep-lying playmaker during the first half of the 2023/24 season, dictating play, initiating attacks from deep and creating chances in the final third. When Wataru Endo was introduced in the starting XI, he began operating in his preferred No.8 role and became more influential for the Reds.

The Argentinean is a technically gifted and tactically sound player who’d enhance any team in world football, as he did for Liverpool. Our new boss Arne Slot must look to build his team around Mac Allister next season. in Arne Slot’s more possession-oriented system, the 25-year-old would thrive as a box-to-box midfielder and help the team function smoothly.
It is great to see Mac Allister Sr. pouring cold water over his son’s links with Real Madrid by stating he would remain at Anfield for at least the next season. However, he left the door wide open after that, which should concern our club and fans.
