Liverpool have a formal bid of £25.3million for Baris Alper Yilmaz
Liverpool have made a formal bid to sign Galatasaray forward Baris Alper Yilmaz this summer, according to Turkish outlet Ajansspor. The 24-year-old had a standout 2023/24 season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 37 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig, helping his team clinch the league title.
His impressive domestic performance continued into the international stage, where he played a crucial role for Turkey in Euro 2024, helping his team reach the quarter-finals. While he failed to find the back of the net in the tournament, Yilmaz still displayed his ability to put the opposition’s backline under pressure consistently.
Following these displays, Liverpool have taken notice and have made a bid close to Galatasaray’s valuation of £25.3 million (€30 million). With his ability to play on either flank and even as a centre-forward, Yilmaz could bring much-needed versatility to Anfield.
A versatile addition
Yilmaz’s ability to adapt to various attacking roles makes him an attractive prospect for Liverpool. During Euro 2024, he was utilized as a centre-forward by coach Vincenzo Montella, showcasing his flexibility and tactical awareness while being able to lead the line. His knack for scoring and assisting demonstrates his potential to contribute significantly to Liverpool’s offensive efforts.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot would undoubtedly value Yilmaz’s versatility. With the ability to operate across the front line, Yilmaz could provide depth and different tactical options. This flexibility could be crucial in a demanding season where injuries and squad rotation are inevitable. After all, Diogo Jota’s absence in the title run last season cost us a clinical attacker who could’ve made the difference.
While Yilmaz’s versatility and recent form make him a compelling target, it is essential to consider Liverpool’s current attacking options. The club already boasts a talented forward line, and integrating Yilmaz into this setup might not guarantee him a starting role. Investing £25.3 million in a player who may not immediately upgrade the starting eleven might not be the most prudent decision.

While Baris Alper Yilmaz is a talented and versatile player, Liverpool should carefully assess their priorities. Strengthening other areas of the squad might provide more immediate benefits, especially since the current attacking lineup is already strong. More so the likes of Jayden Danns, Jason Koumas and Ben Doak will all be pushing for more playing time after enjoying their first-team breakthroughs under Jurgen Klopp. Signing Yilmaz will only limit their playing time further.
