Liverpool target Khvicha Kvaratskhelia likely to pen Napoli extension
It is bad news for the Reds faithful as Napoli and Georgia star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has made a significant U-turn amid transfer links to Liverpool. The 23-year-old winger has been on Liverpool’s radar for the past two years, following his impressive performances in Italy.
Kvaratskhelia joined Napoli in 2022 and quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific wingers, scoring 25 goals and providing 26 assists over two seasons, contributing to Napoli’s Scudetto win in 2023. A former Serie A MVP, his ability is clear for all to see, even being christened with the nickname ‘Kvaradona’.
Despite Napoli’s disappointing tenth-place finish in Serie A last term, Kvaratskhelia’s future has been a hot topic in Italy. Both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in signing the talented winger, with Napoli valuing him at €100 million (£84 million). However, any hopes of a move to Anfield appear to be dashed as Kvaratskhelia has decided to remain with Napoli and is set to sign a new long-term contract.
According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), the 23-year-old has opted to repay the trust shown by Napoli and is keen to continue his journey with the Italian giants. New head coach Antonio Conte has expressed his desire to make Kvaratskhelia a central figure in his project at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Conte’s influence and vision have played a crucial role in convincing the Georgian international to stay.
Kvaratskhelia is expected to return to pre-season training next week, with internal talks of a new contract already underway. The proposed deal would see him earn €5 million per season and extend his stay in Naples until 2029. This extension is a significant commitment and will give Napoli much leverage when it comes to future negotiations.
The 23-year-old is coming off the back of an impressive Euro 2024 campaign where he led Georgia to the knockout rounds. This included a sensational 2-0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s star-studded Portugal side. Kvaratskhelia was impressive on the night and even found the back of the net as he eclipsed Ronaldo in the game.

Kvaratskhelia’s decision to extend his contract with Napoli is a setback for Liverpool, who were hoping to secure his services to bolster their attacking options. The Georgian star’s talent and versatility would have been a valuable addition to Arne Slot’s squad. However, this development forces Liverpool to look elsewhere for reinforcement in their pursuit of domestic and European success.
