Liverpool earmark Quinten Timber as summer alternative for Teun Koopmeiners
Since Arne Slot became Liverpool’s head coach, the club’s pursuit of Teun Koopmeiners has if anything, increased Slot has a strong desire for the 26-year-old midfielder, but Atalanta’s valuation of £50 million+ may cause Liverpool to reconsider their pursuit according to Caught Offside. So, the Reds are looking into other possibilities, such as Quinten Timber, a player that Slot greatly appreciated during his time at Feyenoord.
Timber is an affordable and realistic alternative for Koopmeiners, whose identical twin brother Jurrien is an Arsenal player. Timber showed his capacity to make a big impact last season with 44 appearances for Feyenoord, scoring eight goals and assisting on ten more. Even though Timber’s numbers don’t match up with Koopmeiners, his performance is still outstanding and shows how much of an impact he might have.
Timber, was amongst the best players in his position in Europe’s top leagues in 2023–24. He ranked within the top 1% for non-penalty xG, top 2% for assists, top 3% for shot-creating actions, top 4%, and top 7% for shots taken per 90 minutes. These numbers highlight his offensive skills, making him a desirable target for Liverpool in the event that the Koopmeiners trade falls through.
Although Feyenoord will probably want more, the player has a reasonable market value of €17.7 million (£15 million). Timber is still less expensive than Koopmeiners; therefore, it works with Liverpool’s budget and long-term goals. Liverpool might be making a wise decision if they want Timber, considering Slot’s history with the club and his promise under his previous coach.
It would be wise for Liverpool to give Timber priority. The financial burden of Koopmeiners’ transfer may hinder other signings, despite his undeniable talent. The 23-year-old offers a balanced combination of affordability and quality, and his tenure at Slot facilitates his assimilation into Liverpool’s system.
