Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is loving life under new head coach Arne Slot
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has outlined his pleasure at working under the guidance of new head coach Arne Slot.
The Reds have undergone a big change this summer, with legendary manager Jurgen Klopp bidding farewell to Anfield after nine long years. Arne Slot faces the herculean task of replacing Klopp at the club and achieving a similar kind of success.
It will be very difficult to emulate the German tactician’s success and make Liverpool a winning machine again, but at least Arne Slot has the backing of his players, particularly Curtis Jones. The born and bred Liverpool boy has hailed the impact the Dutch tactician has made in the early weeks of his Anfield tenure, claiming he is relishing the opportunity to work under him and highlighting his satisfaction with the new dynamic approach.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday ahead of the start of Liverpool’s US pre-season tour, Jones said (h/t Sky Sports): “He’s (Slot) amazing, actually. I’ve said it a lot, it’s probably the happiest I’ve been in terms of a style of play that suits me and the lads that we have in our team, it’s a clear plan.”
“In the training stuff, he is fully involved, he coaches us a lot, he is big on the finer details in things.
“He has a certain way of playing and he knows it is going to take a little bit of time because it is obviously a big change.
“He and his staff are chilled about it and they know that the quality is all there.
“We have still got lads who are coming back as well, so it’ll be a step up again.”
Going by Jones’ comments, it appears that Slot has made an instant impression at our club following his summer move away from Feyenoord. The Dutch tactician’s style of play is different to Klopp’s rock and roll, high-octane football and it is obvious the Liverpool players will need time to adapt to the new system and methods.
Despite Jones’ gusto and eagerness to work under the tutelage of the new Reds gaffer, the central midfielder faces the challenge of bringing consistency to his game. The former England youth international, who made his Liverpool senior debut back in January 2019, endured an injury-ravaged past season that limited his contributions to the team.
The 23-year-old suffered a combination of ankle and thigh injuries, which sidelined him for more than three months. He eventually managed 23 Premier League appearances—of which 14 were starts. Now healed fully and a part of the Reds squad for the upcoming pre-season tour in the United States, Jones will be raring to work his magic on Slot and quickly understand the new style of play.

It is a fresh start for Jones and everybody. To truly get to grips with the new system, the midfielder will need to maintain his fitness and cope well with the physical demands of Premier League football. That being said, he has a great opportunity to showcase his qualities on and off the ball to the new coaching staff and make himself ready for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
