Mohamed Salah is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of 2024/25 campaign
According to reliable Liverpool ECHO reporter Ian Doyle, Mohamed Salah is destined to leave Liverpool at the end of the next campaign.
Mohamed Salah is into the final year of his contract which has led to a lot of speculation over his long-term future at Anfield. Liverpool knocked back a mammoth bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad during last summer’s transfer deadline day, demonstrating their will to keep hold of the Egyptian star.
Interest from Saudi Arabia hasn’t waned, but the Reds have decided to not cash in on the 32-year-old forward despite this summer offering them the final chance to get a sizeable fee. Talks over a new contract are yet to commence, with new sporting director Richard Hughes suggesting the club have received no signal that Salah wants to leave the red half of Merseyside this year.
The Egypt skipper is part of Liverpool’s touring squad for their pre-season trip to the United States. Nevertheless, Ian Doyle feels there is a very real prospect that this season will indeed be Salah’s last in Liverpool colours. The lack of movement in terms of contractual talks, combined with factors elsewhere, could hold key to interpreting what the future holds for the Reds superstar.
“Maybe fans have reconciled themselves with the fact Salah is destined to leave at the end of the campaign, with Saudi Arabia still his most likely next destination,” Doyle stated on the Liverpool ECHO.
“Yes, the player has shown no signs of slowing down in recent seasons but, given Salah will be 33 next summer, even his carefully-managed fitness routine cannot defy the impact of time, particularly in the intensity of the Premier League.”
Liverpool have been in the market for a wide forward. Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo has recently emerged as a transfer target, with his compatriot and Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo endorsing a move to Anfield as a potential long-term successor to Salah. And Doyle thinks the Merseyside club looking a wide forward this summer is a clear indication that they are planning for life after the 32-year-old.
“That Liverpool are scouring for a wide forward this summer indicates they are also considering life after Salah, whether that be next season or the one after that. A succession plan will be required and the Reds’ recruitment team would rather be ahead of that particular curve,” the reporter added.
“Mind you, should Salah sign another contract extension at Anfield, nobody will complain. But the signs are starting to point towards an acceptance the Egyptian King will soon abdicate his Anfield throne.”
