Galatasaray are keen to land Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch this summer
Turkish champions Galatasaray are eyeing Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch to partner with former Arsenal player Lucas Torreira in the centre of the park. The Super Lig giants have initiated talks with Liverpool to secure the Dutch midfielder’s services in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Negotiations have commenced, with Galatasaray aiming to bring Gravenberch to Istanbul. Despite being valued at around £29.5m, the Turkish side is keen on a loan deal. According to Yeni Safak, Galatasaray president, Dursun Ozbek, plans to fly to England to finalize the signing.
Gravenberch had a challenging first season at Anfield, making 26 Premier League appearances but only starting 12 times. He managed to complete a full 90 minutes in just one match. The 22-year-old, who earns approximately £150,000 per week, didn’t receive ample opportunities to showcase his talent under Jurgen Klopp.
While that could change under Arne Slot, Gravenberch’s role as a regular starter at Anfield is far from secure. The Dutch international also found himself on the bench during the European Championships under Ronald Koeman. He will hope for better fortune when the 2024/25 season kicks off next month.
A move to Galatasaray could provide the young midfielder with the regular minutes he needs to develop further and fulfil his potential. For the Turks, acquiring a player of Gravenberch’s calibre would be nothing short of a statement. But Liverpool have little reason to sell a player of immense potential, whether it be a loan or a permanent deal.
Gravenberch’s potential departure would be a significant loss for Liverpool. His age and potential align perfectly with the club’s long-term vision. Given a fair chance, Gravenberch could develop into a key player, providing depth and versatility to Liverpool’s midfield. Selling or loaning him out might offer short-term financial gain, but the long-term benefits of nurturing his talent at Anfield far outweigh the immediate rewards.
Liverpool’s focus should be on integrating Gravenberch into the squad, providing him with the necessary game time and support to flourish. By retaining the Dutch midfielder, Liverpool can ensure they have a formidable midfield lineup capable of competing at the highest level. Letting the Dutchman leave could be a decision the club regrets in the future.

At just 22, Gravenberch is young enough to rebuild his career and reach the heights he once promised to. Liverpool have little reason to sell him even on loan and the whole idea can be taken with a pinch of salt. In a summer where we are yet to add a single senior player to the squad, it remains unlikely that a player with Gravenberch’s profile will be allowed to leave.
