Liverpool are open to letting Wataru Endo go for “the right price” after rejecting a €14 million bid from Marseille
Despite rejecting the €14 million bid from Marseille, Liverpool could still sell Wataru Endo for a right offer this summer. However, Liverpool are happy to keep the 31-year-old in their ranks as the squad lacks defensive midfield options right now.
The Reds respect Endo alongside his peers, even though they see him as a squad player. The Japan captain has also endeared himself to the Liverpool fans with his leadership, combative performances and his humble nature.
Endo joined Liverpool last summer under legendary manager Jurgen Klopp after they failed to sign a top replacement for Fabinho. The Reds challenged Chelsea for Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo but lost out on both players after a transfer saga.
Chelsea offered the two midfielders an astronomical price and wages but Liverpool refused to match the offers which later showed why. Caicedo and Lavia failed to perform but Endo delivered for the Reds despite a few struggles with the Premier League’s pace.
According to David Lynch (via Get Football News France/Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could potentially accept a bigger offer for Endo. The Japan captain has attracted interest from several European clubs including Marseille after his impressive eye-catching season with Liverpool.
We think that the Reds would need two situations to get in the position where they accept bids for Endo. Firstly, Liverpool needs a price transfer bid that at least supersedes the £16.2 million which they paid for the Japanese midfielder.
Second and most importantly, they need a worthy option in the market as they are short on natural defensive midfielders. Liverpool currently have Tyler Morton and Stefan Bajcetic as the natural number-six in the squad apart from Endo.

While Morton’s future is uncertain despite his fantastic loan spell with Hull City, Bajcetic recently returned to full fitness. The Spaniard missed the complete last season due to his fitness struggled and required proper game time supervision.
If Liverpool uncharacteristically sells Endo with haste, the need for a defensive midfielder would become a necessity. The situation could give leverage to the clubs they would eventually negotiate with, something that the Reds don’t prefer.
