Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister believes Jurgen Klopp helped his successor Arne Slot “enter the club on the right foot”
Alexis Mac Allister believes that legendary manager Jurgen Klopp helped Arne Slot by announcing him during his emotional Liverpool farewell. Klopp used his farewell speech to create a song for Slot and ask the fans to support his incoming successor.
Slot is currently using the pre-season training in the United States to assess the squad that he inherited from Klopp. The former Feyenoord boss has displayed humility and respect towards the current Liverpool squad by not demanding new signings straightaway.
Usually, new head coaches prefer to add their players to mark their territory, removing players signed by the previous boss. While Slot uses a similar philosophy as Klopp, he has some small yet critical differences in the tactical playing style.
The Dutchman prefers a more calm and balanced build-up play instead of direct attacking and counter-attacking style by Klopp. Liverpool fans are eagerly waiting to see this different style of play and the players who would benefit most from it.
Mac Allister expressed (via Liverpool Echo) his belief that Klopp helped Slot arrive without immense pressure on his shoulders. He said:
“Jurgen’s farewell was fantastic and he himself created a song for the new coach! And I think that will help him a little. I think Arne, thanks to Jurgen, has entered the club on the right foot. I had talks with the new coach during the Copa America, we talked a little about the club and about what I saw and so on. You can tell he’s a very trained technician. He spoke to me very well. And I talked with (Argentina team-mate and Bournemouth player) Marcos Senesi who played for him at Feyenoord, and he spoke very well of him.
Mac Allister played a key role for Liverpool last season after signing from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer. The Argentina international displayed his versatility by playing as the deepest midfielder in many games, performing well and working selflessly.
Slot’s possessional-based footballing philosophy would benefit the player of Mac Allister’s quality regardless of where he plays in midfield. The World Cup winner has already established himself as one of the fan favourites in the senior team.
