Young Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah recognizes his immense potential and room for improvement, willing to do everything to fulfil it
Jarell Quansah showed self-awareness while accepting that there is a big room for improvement to fulfil his potential at Liverpool. The 21-year-old established himself as an important part of the team at Liverpool last season under former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp used Quansah in high-pressure situations in his professional debut against Newcastle United as a substitute for Joel Matip. The situation involved 10-man Liverpool chasing the away game against the Magpies in a hostile environment when the youngster entered.
Liverpool won the game 2-1 as Quansah displayed composure, maturity and impressive presence in the defence at the latter stages. The Englishman played several games last season and impressed the football world enough to almost break into the England squad.
Quansah barely missed the final English squad for the Euro 2024 under Gareth Southgate, displaying his steep rise in football. The 21-year-old told the media (via Mirror) that he is aware of his high potential and that he needs to improve further. He said:
“I think you can figure it out yourself, I’m always looking at games back to see where I can improve. I’m not going to give anyone any secrets on what I’m working on. I’m still young, there’s a lot to improve on. That’s the best thing about it, I know I can be good at times but there’s so much potential and I need to keep working hard to fulfil it.”
Quansah is very important for Liverpool which they showed by rejecting Newcastle’s attempt to sign him in a player-plus-cash deal. The 21-year-old is not for sale despite his young age as his potential has a very high ceiling.
The Englishman earned comparison with his captain Virgil van Dijk due to his elegance on the ball and physical prowess. Quansah also uses game awareness and composure like Van Dijk, making well-timed tackles and positioning himself perfectly to counter opposition attacks.
