Real Sociedad star Brais Mendez said to be on Liverpool’s radar

Liverpool are in the market for the signing of a new midfielder with a box-to-box profile expected to be appealing for them.

According to Spanish source Fichajes, they are monitoring Real Sociedad midfielder Brais Mendez, who is also being looked at by Premier League rivals Arsenal ahead of a possible La Liga exit this summer.

The Spaniard has been an important player for La Real since checking in from Celta Vigo in 2022, and was one of the best midfielders in the Spanish top-flight last season in both areas of the pitch.

Offensively, he scored eight goals and gave nine assists in all competitions for Sociedad, while his defensive numbers also provided for exciting reading, as he won to 57 aerial duels and 213 tackles in La Liga’s 2023/24 campaign.

As a result of his consistent displays and importance to the side, Real Sociedad are expected to ask for at least €50 million for his sale in the ongoing transfer window.

By the looks of it, Liverpool are still on the periphery for the transfer although that could change very quickly due to his reasonable asking price. Having missed out on Adrien Rabiot, the Reds anyway need to consider their options.

Liverpool are keen to add Everton hero Johnny Heitinga to Arne Slot's staff.
Arne Slot’s team needs a boost which could come in the form of a box-to-box midfielder’s signing.

Mendez is still only 27 years of age and has the best years of his career still ahead of him. His disciplinary and fitness records also provide for good reading so far, which indicate his reliability if Liverpool are to sign him.

It remains to be seen how highly Arne Slot prioritises a midfielder’s signing and if indeed the Reds are willing to match his €50 million price.
