Liverpool target Teun Koopmeiners is Juventus bound

Liverpool are looking for an injection of some new faces in midfield and have been linked with the acquisition of Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners for several weeks. However, they have yet to take any formal steps to get the deal across the line.

Juventus had also been keen on the midfielder and are now looking to finalise his move to Turin, having already agreed personal terms with the Dutchman in May. According to Mirror (who cite reports from Italy), the Bianconeri have made a €45 million bid for Koopmeiners, although it remains to be seen whether La Dea accepts that amount or seek a higher transfer fee.

Nevertheless, having already agreed on the finer details with the player, Thiago Motta will be optimistic that the Dutch international will be at his disposal by the time the new Serie A season kicks off.

Juve’s urgency in trying to beat Liverpool to Koopmeiners is an indicator of their bid to replace Adrien Rabiot, who is now a free agent and could be Manchester United-bound after rejecting a contract extension at the Allianz Stadium.

For Liverpool and Arne Slot, missing out on Koopmeiners comes as a big blow as he would have been a fantastic addition to their squad. He is a dynamic and modern-day midfielder, who can play various roles in the engine room.

The 26-year-old also has the prime years of his career ahead of him and if indeed Juventus can purchase him for just €45 million, they will be a very happy club having signed one of Serie A’s premier midfielders in what could prove to be a bargain.

Liverpool’s slow and steady approach in the transfer market is not doing them much justice and the board will need to act soon if they are to challenge Arsenal and Manchester City to the Premier League’s summit next season.

At this point, however, they do not seem to be in advanced negotiations with any of their target, possibly to the annoyance of the fans and even Arne Slot.
