Don Hutchinson backs Liverpool to splash £100m for Victor Osimhen

Former Liverpool player Don Hutchison has made a compelling case for the Reds to pursue Victor Osimhen instead of focusing on Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. Hutchinson has a high impression of Osimhen whom he previously labelled ‘incredible’.

Despite a relatively quiet transfer window so far, Liverpool is expected to make significant moves to bolster their squad. Hutchison believes that investing in Osimhen would be a more impactful decision than targeting Gordon.

Under new head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool have been carefully evaluating their current squad. While some fans are frustrated by the lack of immediate action, it appears that Slot is now ready to request reinforcements. The priority for the Reds seems to be strengthening their wide attacking options, with a left winger high on the list. Gordon has been a name frequently mentioned, but Newcastle United’s high asking price has been a stumbling block.

Liverpool already boasts talented wingers like Luis Diaz, which raises questions about the necessity of spending heavily on Gordon. Hutchison, speaking on ESPN via TBR, suggests that the club should instead focus their financial resources on acquiring Victor Osimhen.

“You would be better off putting £100 million towards Osimhen. £50 million for Gordon doesn’t really make sense because of the players that Liverpool have got.”

Osimhen, currently one of the hottest commodities in the transfer market, is seeking a move away from Napoli. Hutchison argues that Liverpool could benefit significantly from adding a player of Osimhen’s calibre, especially given Darwin Nunez’s inconsistency last season.

Osimhen’s potential move could spark a bidding war, with clubs like Chelsea already showing interest. Napoli’s €130 million release clause is a major hurdle, but Liverpool might have the financial capability to meet this valuation. But whether the Reds consider such a deal financially prudent is debatable.

While Osimhen is certainly world-class, we already have a potential world-beater leading the line in Darwin Nunez. Arne Slot appears to have locked into the player’s abilities and intends to use him as his attacking spearhead. Given that the decision is already made, the Reds are better off landing Gordon, who is a force to be reckoned with out wide. What do you think?
