Fabrizio Romano confirms Leicester City are now keen on Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho
Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho is a man in demand, and the list of clubs keen on him continues to grow, with Championship winners Leicester City now entering the fray for his signature. This was revealed by Fabrizio Romano via X.
The 21-year-old has found the back of the net twice in pre-season, against Arsenal and Manchester United, earning rave reviews from head coach Arne Slot. The Dutchman has certainly been left impressed by the attacker and could hand him an opportunity to impress this coming 2024-25 campaign.
However, regular playing time in Red is far from given thanks to Liverpool’s riches in the attacking roster. Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo form the attacking quintet, with the likes of Jayden Danns and Harvey Elliott also adding to the numbers. Should the Reds bring in Anthony Gordon, it will only make Carvalho’s hopes of breaking into the playing XI harder.
Carvalho endured a difficult first half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan at RB Leipzig. However, he redeemed himself in the second half of the campaign, where he lit up the Championship in Hull City colours. Leicester might have won the second tier but they were held to a 2-2 draw by the Tigers in 2024, with Carvalho opening the scoring on the night.
The Foxes will be well aware of the Portuguese sensation’s abilities and are now ready to seek his services ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Liverpool, for their part, are not keen to sell and have already rejected a bid from Southampton.
The Saints are now set to return with an improved bid, and it remains to be seen if Leicester will rise to that challenge. Carvalho could thrive in the setup and secure regular playing time, aiding in his development. However, whether the Reds will allow that to happen on loan or as a permanent deal remains to be seen.
The best solution would be for Liverpool to allow Carvalho to go on loan. Having proven himself in the Championship, the time is now for the 21-year-old to earn his wings in the top flight. If what we saw in pre-season is anything to go by, he should have np issues making his point.
Arne Slot is certainly impressed, and it remains to be seen what it will take to convince Liverpool to sell. With more pre-season games to come, Carvalho can make a case for himself by continuing his purple patch of form.
