Kostas Tsimikas’ Liverpool future remains uncertain
Liverpool star Konstantinos Tsimikas proved to be one of the most reliable players last season as he stepped up to good measure when Andy Robertson was injured and had to be replaced.
The Scottish international’s fitness issues returned during Euro 2024 which resulted in him missing the American leg of Arne Slot’s maiden pre-season tour. Tsimikas covered in his absence during the friendlies so far and he may once again need to be counted on in the Premier League if Robertson does not recover from his problem in time.
David Lynch, however, remains wary of the Greek’s future at Anfield and said that there are numerous possibilities for the 28-year-old during his appearance on the Anfield Index podcast.
The journalist added that those within the Liverpool camp are not fully confident that Tsimikas will be at the club next season, in which case, the board will scramble to sign a replacement for the former Olympiacos full-back.
Earlier this summer a report from Football Insider stated that Tsimikas was already the subject of interest for other clubs, whose identities remain unknown so far, which meant that Liverpool could require a new left-back this summer.
If indeed the defender were to leave the club this summer, there would be no shortage of suitors for him and he would also have no trouble negotiating a deal elsewhere given that his annual salary at Anfield is only £3.9 million.
It is also understandable why Tsimikas would want to depart the club. He is in the prime years of his career and there is no practicality from his perspective to be on the bench behind a player who will inevitably replace him in the line-up when available.
Liverpool, however, have their downside covered as with his contract running until June 2027, they hold a good amount of bargaining power over his future.

Not only are the Reds visibly thin in defence heading into 2024/25 but they can ill afford to lose a key squad player without signing an appropriate replacement first. Liverpool’s business for the summer has not even remotely started and as a result, Tsimikas could end up spending another year on Merseyside.
