Moises Caicedo believes his decision to join Chelsea is “100% the right one” and ironically Liverpool fans agree with him
Chelsea star Moises Caicedo reiterated that his decision to join the London club over Liverpool was “100% the right one”. Ironically, Liverpool fans agreed with the Columbian defensive midfielder on social media while counting their blessings for avoiding him.
Chelsea and Liverpool engaged in a high-profile battle for the defensive midfield position involving Caicedo and Romeo Lavia last summer. Liverpool made a late move for Caicedo and forced Chelsea to pay astronomical figures to secure the deal with Brighton.
Chelsea paid more than the transfer value for Lavia to sign him from Southampton as a statement of market dominance. Meanwhile, Liverpool decided to put their faith in the scouts and acquired Wataru Endo from Stuttgart despite his obscure reputation.
However, Caicedo and Lavia failed to deliver for Chelsea as they stumbled around in the mid-table in the Premier League. At the same time, Endo proved his worth by helping them compete for all trophies for most of the season.
Caicedo told the media (via Fabrizio Romano) that his decision to pick Chelsea over Liverpool was tough but eventually right. He said:
“I still remember one year ago… difficult decision, Liverpool is a big team but Chelsea were with me for a couple months and I felt like I couldn’t miss this move. They were with me in tough times, it was a difficult decision… but 100% the right one”.
Liverpool fans understand that Caicedo is consoling himself more than anyone else with such statements after the disaster season. While the Kopites can chuckle about this, the recent news from David Ornstein has them focused on the transfer market.
Ornstein revealed in the Transfer DealSheet that Liverpool are pursuing a specialist number six from outside of the Premier League. The Reds fanbase have welcomed the news as the need for an upgrade in the department is very evident.
Liverpool currently have Endo, Tyler Morton and Stefan Bajcetic in their ranks as the natural number six players. Bajcetic require special supervision after facing sideline throughout the last season due to fitness issues.

Meanwhile, Morton has a lot to prove to the new head coach Arne Slot before he is a viable option for the position. Despite Endo’s success last season, the Japan captain could struggle in the new system that requires the number six to be more than just a shield to the defence.
