Don Hutchinson has urged Liverpool to make a move for Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer
With the summer transfer window deadline fast approaching, Liverpool have the next few weeks to bring in players who can reinforce their roster and aid Arne Slot as he aims to build upon Jurgen Klopp’s solid foundations at Anfield.
Now former Red Don Hutchison has voiced his opinion on ESPN via Youtube, urging his old club to consider bolstering their left-back position. With Andy Robertson enduring an injury-plagued campaign last season, Hutchison believes that Liverpool should add depth in that area, and he has identified Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Rayan Ait-Nouri as an ideal candidate.
“I’ll tell you who I would sign for Liverpool – I’ve been championing this for the last two years – is Rayan Ait-Nouri, the left-back at Wolves. If Andy Robertson is struggling for injuries, he could compete for that left-back berth. I think he’s a brilliant young player and I think that’s what they need. They’ve got good players across the back, but they need a little bit of cover.”
Ait-Nouri has made a name for himself in the Premier League with his solid performances for Wolves. His defensive prowess, coupled with his ability to contribute offensively, makes him a standout talent. However, Wolves are asking for around £38 million to part ways with the African star, which would require Liverpool to allocate a significant portion of their transfer budget to secure his services.
Given the 23-year-old’s proven capabilities in one of the toughest leagues in the world, his acquisition would be a strategic move for Liverpool. He could provide much-needed competition and cover for Robertson, ensuring that the Reds maintain strength and depth in their defensive lineup.
Despite having Kostas Tsimikas as a backup for Robertson, the addition of Ait-Nouri could still be beneficial. Tsimikas has performed admirably when called upon, but the rigours of a long season in multiple competitions necessitate having more than one reliable option for each position. More so, the Greek star’s future at Anfield is far from secure. Ait-Nouri’s arrival could ensure Liverpool are well-prepared for any eventualities.

While the club has other pressing needs, ensuring depth in key positions is crucial for maintaining competitiveness across all fronts. Ait-Nouri’s potential arrival would not only provide cover for Robertson but also push him to maintain his high standards.
Investing in a player of Ait-Nouri’s calibre could be seen as a long-term solution that aligns with Liverpool’s ambitions. Whether or not the Reds act on Hutchison’s advice, it is clear that strengthening the squad’s depth remains a priority as they aim to compete for top honours in the coming season.
